The 2017 World Title race will be one to remember, thanks to the incredible efforts of Gabriel Medina and John John Florence, the final two contenders in this year’s showdown. Medina’s stunning late-season surge got fans worldwide hyped up for the Billabong Pipe Masters, the final stop of the World Surf League’s Championship Tour. Medina, the 2014 World Champion, came into the event chasing Jeep Leader Florence, the reigning World Champion, and the two rivals didn’t disappoint. Medina eliminated 11x World Champion Kelly Slater on his way to the Quarterfinals, but his run was put to a halt by France’s Jeremy Flores, resulting in Florence earning his second-straight World Title. Florence nearly followed up with his first Pipe Masters win, but Flores wasn’t done playing the spoiler. With 22 seconds left on the clock the battle-hardened veteran stole the victory.
